Visual Communication students attend the -ING Creative Festival in Dubai

ING Creative Festival 2018 took place from 11-13 April, in the Dubai Design District. ING is the creative agency responsible for the annual ING Creative Festival, the three-day festival gathers together designers, artists and creatives from all over the world, with a series of talks, exhibitions, workshops, networking sessions, panel discussions, portfolio reviews and workshops on everything from the aforementioned bookbinding, to 3-D design and printing, Arabic calligraphy and branding for start-ups. There are tipped to be 1,300 attendees travelling from over 35 countries. The speakers themselves hail from over 15 countries. This isn’t a small-scale opportunity to network, but a massively diverse one. It’s a chance to share ideas with like-minded people who can provide a fresh perspective on your projects. Speaking at the event will be a line-up of professionals, including Tony Bonilla, an animator at Walt Disney Animation Studios; Karen Kasmauski, a photographer with National Geographic; and Dan Rhatigan, Senior Manager at Adobe. As well as learning from these experts, attendees will also be able to attend workshops in everything from Japanese calligraphy to screen-printing. The festival hosted a Creative Market, with more than 50 artists exhibiting their work from all over the world, including New Zealand, Singapore, Venezuela, and the Dominican Republic. Not only were we able to browse stunning art and products, we were supporting entrepreneurs and contributing to the flourish creative scene globally.

From our VC department 8 Students attended (Sarah Tarabulsi, Sara Binsaeed, Eiman Fakih, Eman Alsari, Rawan Aitta, Manal Alkholaidan, Suad Zainaldine and Shumoukh AlShoaibi) along with myself (Zeina Joueidi) attended the talks and workshops based on our different interests. The students really enjoyed the experience but what they enjoyed the most was networking with many talented minds and getting to know different artists and designers from all around the world.

The highlight of the event was that many of our students shared their business card and portfolio’s with many famous well established artists and designers. One of them was Mr. Peter Goodwin who is the CEO & Co-Founder of Mestaria. Mestaria represents and promotes Artists, Art Events & Art Education. They are Middle East based and Middle East focused, they represent Artists from the wider Middle East region both locally and internationally. They were interested in our students and they offered to facilitated networking and finding jobs for them after graduation.
